Polyaspartic floor coating is one of the best options on the market for sealing and protecting concrete floors, with a quicker application process and nearly three times the durability of traditional epoxy flooring. With the proper cleaning and maintenance, polyaspartic floor coating can last up to twenty years.

Here are some cleaning tips to help you get the most out of your investment.

Follow the Right Steps

Polyaspartic floor coating creates a non-slip, non-absorptive surface that should be regularly swept and mopped to keep any loose grit or debris from scratching the surface. High-traffic areas should be swept daily with a soft-bristle broom or microfiber dust mop to prevent wear and tear.

Once every 1-2 weeks, your floor should be scrubbed after sweeping to prevent any buildup on the surface. After scrubbing, cleaners should always be rinsed away with plain water. In between cleanings, you should regularly inspect your floor surface for any spills and clean immediately to avoid stains or dulling of the surface.

Choose the Right Cleaner

Polyaspartic floor coating can stand up to many chemicals and harsh substances, but choosing a gentler cleaner can help preserve that durability for any accidental spills. Look for a cleaner that has a neutral pH value, anywhere from 7 to 10. Avoid any cleaner with acids, crystallizing salts, oils, or sand listed in the ingredients.

Before using a new cleaner on the entirety of your polyaspartic floor coating, test the substance on a small, less visible, or low-traffic area of the surface. Look for any signs of a film developing on the surface or other reactions that may damage the floor. If no reaction occurs, proceed in using the cleaner on the entire surface.

As an alternative to using a commercial cleaner, your floor coating can be cleaned with a solution of hot water and ammonia. Mix about five ounces of ammonia for every gallon of hot water. Use a microfiber mop to spread on the floor surface, then rinse with plain hot water.

Never mix cleaners as this could cause a potentially harmful reaction that could damage the floor. It is not necessary to use floor wax on polyaspartic floor coatings. In fact, using wax can damage the non-slip quality of the surface.

Protect Your Floor Between Cleanings

It’s best not to drag or pull heavy items or equipment across the surface of your floor coating. This may scratch into the surface, which compromises the coating and allows fluids to penetrate and damage or stain the floor.

When moving heavy items, place a cloth or blanket under the item to protect the floor and prevent scratching. Additionally, place a blanket or cloth under any heavy items that permanently rest on the coated surface, such as shelving or storage units. This will prevent corners or sharp edges on the item from digging into the floor and damaging it over time.
